Description

Shrimp and Sausage Dirty Rice is a hearty and flavorful dish packed with shrimp, sausage, and aromatic vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the long-grain rice to the pot, stirring to coat it in the oil and mix with the vegetables.
  6. Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring well.
  7. Add the Cajun seasoning, thyme, paprika, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
  8. Increase heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.
  9. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
  10. Gently fold in the shrimp, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  11. Carefully remove the bay leaf before serving.
  12. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  • You can use brown rice for a healthier option, but adjust cooking time accordingly.
