Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp (28g) unsalted butter
  • ½ cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (15g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ⅔ cup (135g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
  • Optional: chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or caramel bits

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler, melt chocolate chips and butter together until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla for 3–4 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  4. Stir in the melted chocolate mixture, then gently fold in the dry ingredients until combined. Batter will be thick.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a lined baking sheet, sprinkle with sea salt, and bake for 10–12 minutes until tops are shiny and cracked.
  6. Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the pan before transferring to a rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
