These Kitchen Sink Cookie Bars are a delicious and forgiving dessert that embraces creativity with mix-ins, perfect for any occasion.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups mixed mix-ins (chocolate chips, chopped nuts, oats, pretzels, shredded coconut, dried fruit)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk cooled melted butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until glossy. Add eggs one at a time, whisking to incorporate, and stir in vanilla.
- Fold dry ingredients into the wet until just combined and avoid overmixing. Fold in mix-ins, reserving a handful for topping.
- Spread dough evenly in the prepared pan. Sprinkle reserved mix-ins on top.
- Bake for 22–30 minutes, checking for doneness at 22 minutes for chewy centers or 28 minutes for sliceable bars.
- Cool in the pan for 10-20 minutes before lifting out with parchment and cooling completely before slicing.
Notes
These bars can be made gluten-free and are easily adaptable based on available mix-ins. Toast nuts beforehand for enhanced flavor.
