  • 12 Kit Kats, half crushed, half cut into quarters
  • 1 cup Butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
  • Kit Kat bars (from cupcake quantity), crushed as specified

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Crush half of the Kit Kat bars in a sealed Ziploc bag using a rolling pin.
  3. Sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Whisk together the egg, buttermilk, hot coffee, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix for about 2 minutes.
  6. Gently fold the crushed Kit Kat pieces into the batter.
  7. Divide the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  8. Bake for 13 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
  9. Beat the softened butter until light and creamy, about 2–3 minutes.
  10. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream; mix until smooth.
  11. Incorporate the crushed Kit Kat pieces and whip the frosting for 3–4 minutes.
  12. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes.
  13. Top each cupcake with quarters of Kit Kat bars and drizzle with fudge sauce if desired.
