- 6 cups of day-old bread, cubed (French or brioche works well)
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and diced apples. Toss lightly to mix.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Pour the wet mixture over the bread and apple mixture. Gently stir until the bread is well coated. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes to soak.
- Pour the bread pudding mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly.
- Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the top of the bread pudding.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 15-20 minutes before serving. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top just before serving.
