Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups (340g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 24 blanched almonds
- 1 small tube red decorating gel (optional)
- Green food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Cream the Butter and Sugar: Beat the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla. Add food coloring if desired.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture to form dough.
- Chill the Dough: Wrap in plastic and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Shape the Fingers: Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Roll dough into thin finger shapes.
- Add Details: Press an almond on one end for a nail. Use a knife to create knuckle lines and pinch the center slightly.
- Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on a wire rack.
- Decorate: Optionally, lift the almond, add red gel underneath, and press the almond back for a “bloody nail” look.
Notes
- Chill the dough to avoid spreading during baking.
- Use blanched almonds or chocolate chips for the nails.
- Add pumpkin spice or cinnamon to flavor the dough.
- Store in an airtight container for 3 days or refrigerate for a week.
- Freeze unbaked shaped fingers and bake when needed.
