- 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk (or milk alternative)
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 oz (55 g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp molasses
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- â…› tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Whipped cream or marshmallows (for topping)
Instructions
- Warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat, but do not let it boil.
- Whisk in cocoa powder, chopped chocolate, and brown sugar. Stir until fully melted and smooth.
- Add cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, molasses, and vanilla extract. Whisk for 1–2 minutes until aromatic and steaming.
- Sweeten or spice further if desired.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows. Add chocolate shavings or cinnamon for garnish.
