- 1 package (17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 4 cups)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package instructions until slightly chilled but pliable. Carefully unfold the sheets on a floured surface.
- Using a round biscuit cutter or a cup about 3 inches in diameter, cut out circles from the puff pastry. Use a smaller cutter (about 1 inch) to cut out the centers, creating donut-shaped rings.
- Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot to a depth of about 2-3 inches. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C), using a deep-frying thermometer to monitor temperature.
- Carefully add a few cronuts to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Remove the fried cronuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, toss the cronuts in a bowl containing the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
