Ingredients

  • 500 g white fish fillets (Choose cod or tilapia for texture)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (Base for the crispy coating)
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal (Adds extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (Subtle smokiness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (Adjust for desired spice level)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (Adds warmth)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (Mild garlic kick)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (Enhances richness)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper (Season to taste)
  • 1 egg beaten (Helps coating stick)
  • 1/4 cup milk (Keeps batter moist)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (Preferably panko)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (Optional for extra flavor)
  • Vegetable oil (Enough to cover the bottom of the pan)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (Creamy base for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (Adds spicy kick)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (Brightens sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (Balances spice)
  • A pinch of salt (Enhances flavors)

Instructions

  1. Cut the fish fillets into bite-sized nugget pieces and gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk.
  4. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese (if using).
  5. Dip each piece of fish first into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. In a frying pan, heat about 1/4 cup of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  7. Fry the nuggets for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  8. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, lemon juice, honey, and a pinch of salt.
  9. Serve the spicy nuggets hot with the zesty dipping sauce on the side.
