- 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup cold water
- Oil for frying
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add cold water until you achieve a smooth batter.
- In a deep pan or wok, heat the oil over medium heat. You’ll need enough oil to submerge the chicken pieces.
- Dip each piece of chicken into the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated.
- Carefully place the battered chicken pieces into the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a separate pan, add honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir over low heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the fried chicken to the sauce, tossing to coat each piece thoroughly.
- Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
