Description
Easy Cheesy Egg Toast Recipe: Your New Favorite Breakfast!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices bread
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup (2 oz) grated cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyere)
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, whisk the large egg with fresh herbs, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) until well combined.
- Carefully dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Allow any excess to drip off.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Place the dipped bread slices in the pan. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side until golden brown and the egg is set.
- After flipping each slice, immediately sprinkle ½ cup grated cheese evenly over the top. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is beautifully melted and bubbly. For extra gooey cheese, cover the pan for the last minute.
- Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or your favorite toppings.
