Description

This indulgent Black Forest Trifle layers rich dark chocolate, creamy custard, fluffy whipped cream, and moist chocolate sponge with cherries soaked in kirsch and luscious cherry jam, offering a delightful twist on the classic Black Forest cake perfect for any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 150 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 500 ml ready made custard
  • 600 ml double cream
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar
  • 300 g chocolate swiss roll or chocolate sponge
  • 45 tbsp Kirsch
  • 400 g fresh cherries soaked in 200 ml kirsch
  • 100 g fresh cherries
  • 200 g cherry jam or conserve
  • 150 g brownie bites
  • 10 g grated chocolate

Instructions

  1. Soak 400 g fresh cherries in 200 ml kirsch for at least 1 hour to infuse flavor and soften the fruit.
  2. In a large bowl, whip 600 ml double cream with 2 tablespoons icing sugar until soft peaks form, set aside in the fridge to keep chilled.
  3. Gently melt the 150 g chopped dark chocolate over a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  4. Slice the 300 g chocolate swiss roll or sponge into thick slices. Drizzle 4-5 tablespoons kirsch over the slices to moisten them and layer them at the bottom of a large trifle bowl or individual glasses.
  5. Spread 200 g cherry jam evenly over the sponge layer, then scatter 150 g brownie bites on top for added texture and richness.
  6. Drain the soaked cherries slightly and layer them evenly over the jam and brownie layer.
  7. Pour 500 ml ready made custard over the cherry layer, spreading it smoothly to cover.
  8. Spoon or pipe the chilled whipped cream over the custard layer to create a fluffy, creamy top.
  9. Garnish the trifle with fresh cherries (100 g), the remaining soaked cherries, and sprinkle 10 g grated chocolate over the entire dessert for an elegant finish.
  10. Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set perfectly.
