Description

Apple Pie Bread Pudding is a delightful dessert that combines the flavors of apple pie with the comforting texture of bread pudding.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups of day-old bread, cubed (French or challah works best)
  • 4 cups of peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of raisins or chopped nuts (optional)
  • Butter, for greasing the baking dish
  • Whipped cream or vanilla sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and diced apples. If you’re using raisins or nuts, add them now.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and apples, pressing down gently to ensure everything is soaked evenly. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  5. Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
  8. Cut into squares and serve warm. Top with whipped cream or vanilla sauce if desired.
